Kinari means border — the edge, the trim, the detail that runs the perimeter. In South Asian textile tradition, the kinari is often where the most elaborate work lives: embroidered hems, woven borders, the finishing that tells you about everything that came before it. The Kinari Button Down is built around that principle, where the border is the story.
On a black half-sleeve khaddar base, the shirt runs a silk banarsi border down its length, a weave of extraordinary complexity typically found on ceremonial garments. A second border in pink lightweight fabric creates contrast alongside the banarsi. Mukesh hand work — a form of metallic thread embellishment — runs along the border, and khaddar patches continue the layered material language of the piece. A screen-printed RASTAH logo patch completes the chest.
Black khaddar is severe and grounded. Silk banarsi is the opposite: luminous, intricate, associated with wealth and occasion. Placing one against the other in the same garment creates a tension that is the shirt's entire argument — that utility and ceremony are not opposites, that a button-down can carry both registers simultaneously.
