Oversized grey terry cloth t shirt with printed “rastah” logo patch on the front made of handwoven fabric. The patch on the back showcases artwork by the immensely celebrated Pakistani artist Sadequain Ahmed Naqvi, known world over as Sadequain. The image, titled “soul and body”, first debuted as part of his 1970 exhibition, “Society and the Stranger”.

Sadequain’s work rejects hollow aesthetic pursuit and yearns for deeper understanding. He explains his own work best, stating in an interview: ”People ask why I don't paint flowers, butterflies and landscapes? I tell them that I seek the truth and I am after reality. I am not inspired by someone posing against the backdrop of roses in a vase or pink curtains. What inspires me is a person who has gone hungry for hours and is struggling for survival. The expression that lights his face at the end of the day when he has finally found some scraps, that is what touches me. I am a painter of the expression of reality."

He passed away in Karachi in 1987 and, to this day, few artists can claim as great an imprint on Pakistani culture.
